Farmington Country Club is a private club in Charlottesville Virginia with a 28-hole golf course as its centerpiece. It is the oldest golf course in Albemarle County.
The clubhouse is an impressive brick structure; it was originally built circa 1780 and has had many additions and renovations since then, including the octagonal east wing which was built from a Thomas Jefferson design in 1802.
The Jeffersonian architectural elements such as brick and columns and arched windows remain to confirm the traditional grandeur of the clubhouse. Surrounding the clubhouse are a few elegant upscale homes in the sought-after enclave of the Farmington community.
The golf course at Farmington Country Club was originally built in 1927 but has had a couple of renovations since then. In 1965 a 9-hole short course was added but it is recently completely re-done as a 10-hole short course that can be played in 90+/- minutes.
The new redesigned Farmington 10-hole short course also has the practice facility. That new course is a mix of par-3’s and par-4’s, with one hole that can be a par-5. The golf facilities at Farmington also include a driving range, putting green, indoor hitting area, and a short game practice area. The current course golf offering is 28 holes, 6740 yards and par 70. It’s a beautiful well manicured course with distant mountain views and it’s only 5 minutes west from downtown Charlottesville (and is nearly across the street from the Birdwood golf course as well).
Farmington’s tennis facilities are also popular. There are 15 outdoor courts, 3 indoor courts and 3 platform tennis courts.
Farmington offers various types of memberships… “Social” (limited golf and tennis, “Comprehensive” (unlimited golf and tennis). Both memberships allow use of the 25-meter swimming pool, fitness center, and dining… and of course there is a fee for access to the extensively upgraded food/beverage membership privileges. The membership fees at Farmington vary… there are Families, Juniors 21-39 years, Seniors age 70+, and Singles membership rates and terms. To be considered for membership an applicant must be sponsored by current Farmington Country Club members, and then meet the requirements for the particular membership type. Members might have guest privileges as well.

Homes at Farmington Country Club are on large landscaped lots and are mostly quite traditional in design and materials.
